Kelpie Shampoo bar. How does it work?
This pH-balanced solid shampoo bar is made with gentle and biodegradable surfactants that will clean your hair without irritating your scalp. No sulfates, parabens, or allergens. Perfect for sensitive scalps and skin.
How does it care for my hair?
The organic cold-pressed Argan and Jojoba oils gently condition your hair without weighing it down. Tiny flecks of dark green you see in the bar are pieces of seaweed. Seaweed adds gentle exfoliation to the skin and scalp. This Kelpie shampoo bar is unscented and therefore free from allergens.
Why make these shampoo bars?
I want to use a shampoo bar that lathers well, leaves my hair feeling fabulous, and is made using sustainable ingredients that do not damage the planet. I compared Kelpie Shampoo bars to a competitor’s bar using equipment at Plymouth University (PEMC), and the results are in my blog.
How long will it last?
Approximately 40 washes or as long as 2 standard liquid bottles of shampoo. Kelpie shampoo bar is 50 grams, compact, mighty, and plastic-free. Store the bar somewhere it can dry out between uses. If you’re keeping it in the tin it may not stay totally solid. I keep a kelpie shampoo bar in my swim bag that is in a tin. I put a little water in the tin with the bar, swirl the water around to dissolve some product then use this on my hair.
How to use solid Shampoo?
Rub the bar directly on your hair, or you can lather it in your hands and use the lather to wash your hair. Try washing your roots first, rinse, then do another wash all over to wash your hair thoroughly. To make the most out of the conditioning ingredients in the Kelpie shampoo bars, try applying some lather on your hair lengths and ends, and leaving it for 1-2 minutes, like you would with a traditional conditioner. Leave longer if you need extra conditioning, and then rinse
This shampoo bar doesn’t need an acid rinse, and it doesn’t have a transition phase!

Ingredients INCI
SCI, SLSa, Decyl Glucoside, Iota Carrageenan, Kaolin Clay – 1332-58-7, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil, Ascophyllum Nodosum (seaweed), D-Panthenol, Parfum*.
*Parfum = Naticide. Naticide is a natural preservative derived from vegetable sources. While it is classified as “Parfum” or “Fragrance” on product labels (its INCI name), it’s important to note that Naticide serves a different purpose than added perfumes or fragrances. It acts as a broad-spectrum preservative, protecting the product against bacteria, moulds, and yeasts. This allows manufacturers to claim a product is preservative-free. It is essential to use a preservative in cosmetic products that come into contact with water to prevent bacteria, mould and yeast growth.
Naticide is technically labelled as a fragrance ingredient (due to the light vanilla/almond aroma); however, it is considered a non-irritant. It DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY ALLERGENS listed in the European Union’s Official Journal. This makes it suitable for use in cosmetic formulations, including those that are organic and unscented.

Lathers up without needing very much, and unlike other shampoo bars it doesn’t go soft and mushy in between uses.
Despite not using any conditioner, my hair was still fairly easy to comb through and when dry it feels silky soft!

Ordering online and delivery was efficient. I have ordered this shampoo bar again because I have been using it already since Dec 2021 and I really like it. It does not make my head itch which other makes of shampoos do. I have short but thick hair and one bar has lasted from mid Dec til June, almost 6 months. I followed the instructions. I use a little each time, two or three times a week. I allow the bar to dry between uses. I was amazed how long it lasted.
